This page showcases “pictures of the week” taken by the students of Advanced Photojournalism for a semester-long project on water.
week 3
On Apr 4, 2009, Zhang mei(张梅) is getting water for cooking lunch from the well. Zhang lives in a town named Liangying(两英), which is in Channan(潮南) District. Most of the villagers in her village is from Anhui Province and works there as a tricycle driver, or gets a job of collecting garbage. There are no water pipelines in the village, so they have to drink groudwater. What’s important, the groundwater has been polluted and is bad for people’s health. Everyday, the first five barrels of water can’t be used, for it’s not clean enough. Look the picture, there is all rubbish around the well.
